Late Surge Leads USC To Win At Arizona

Junior Anika Apostalon won the 50y and 100y free and led off USC's clinching 200y free relay as the Trojans downed host Arizona, 156-144, in Tucson on Saturday (Nov. 7).
USC improved to 5-1 overall this year, 4-0 in the Pac-12.
Apostalon won the 50y free in 22.78 and the 100 in 49.18. She joined juniors Evan Swenson and Chelsea Chenault and freshman Allie Wooden to win the 200y free relay in 1:31.05, 0.05 ahead of a charging Arizona to seal the win.
Freshman Destiny Nelson came through with a similarly tight victory in the race before, capturing the 400y IM in 4:21.47, edging Bonnie Brandon's 4:21.97 for the 10-point swing.
Freshman Elizabeth Stinson won the 1000y free in 10:03.30 while Chenault followed with a win in the 200y free in 1:49.13.
Freshman Madison Wright (1:59.99) and Chenault (2:00.49) went 1-2 in the 200y fly and freshman Riley Scott touched first by .10 to win the 200y breast in 2:12.65.
Wooden (4:52.51) led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 500y free with Chenault and Stinson behind her.
Next up for USC is the Trojan Diving Invitational, at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center, Nov. 13-15.
