Samantha Bricio Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - USC junior All-American outside hitter Samantha Bricio was named the Pac-12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-12. It is her third selection for the conference's weekly honors and USC's 58th all-time weekly certificate not including 12 Freshman of the Week awards. Washington's Krista Vansant was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Oregon State's Mary-Kate Marshall was chosen for Freshman of the Week honors. Bricio was an offensive force in the Trojans' two weekend victories as she averaged an impressive 7.29 points per set with 37 kills on 80 attempts with an additional 12 service aces and four block assists. She became USC's all-time career aces leader (182) after a career-high eight-ace performance against the Utes matched a program single-match record. That performance also marked the fourth time this season that she has had at least six aces in a single match; the seventh time she has done so in her career.
Defensively, Bricio had 10 digs in each match to log her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season to run her career total to 30 double-double matches. Her 32.0 points against Utah was a new career high and her career service aces total now ranks second in Pac-12 history, only 16 away from the all-time conference mark of 198 set by UCLA's Daiva Tomkus (1986-89).
Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Conference began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the fourth year the Pac-12 has announced an offensive, defensive, and rookie honoree. Freshman of the week honors are not included in the all-time totals for each institution.
The Women of Troy (10-6, 3-3 Pac-12) host Oregon on Friday (Oct. 17) at 8 p.m. PT and Oregon State on Sunday (Oct. 19) at 11 a.m. at the Galen Center. The Trojans have won three straight since opening league play with an 0-3 record. Both matches will be carried live on the Pac-12 Networks.
