USC senior outside hitter Tony Ciarelli was named the Molten Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week for his performances last week in a pair of road wins over No. 8 Long Beach State and No. 11 Cal State Northridge.
It is the third time that Ciarelli was honored by the MPSF in 2012, more than any other player in the league.
Ciarelli served an MPSF and USC all-era match-record 11 aces to help top-ranked USC claim its 16th consecutive victory with a 3-0 win at Long Beach State. He also had a match-high 9 kills along with 3 blocks at Long Beach State. Two nights later, in a 3-0 sweep at Cal State Northridge, Ciarelli led the Trojans with a match-high 19 kills while hitting an astronomical .818 (just 1 error on 22 attempts) as USC won its second consecutive Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title.
This is the fifth time in his career that Ciarelli was named the MPSF Player of the Week.
USC, which has moved up to No. 4 in the national rankings, hosts a pair of matches this week against No. 13 Hawaii in the Galen Center, on Friday (March 2) at 7 p.m. and then a Sunday (March 4) matinee at 1 p.m.
