Trainer Leads No. 6 USC In Barona Cup First Day

Junior Martin Trainer is in 17th while sophomore Ramsey Sahyoun is tied for 18th after almost two rounds of play at the Barona Collegiate Cup at the Barona Creek G.C. in Lakeside, Calif. The scheduled 36 holes play was cut short due to darkness.
USC combined for an 8-under 352 first round and was 5-under late in the second round, tied for third with North Texas, when play stopped. Host San Diego State is in first at 23-under while Kent State is second at 14-under.
Trainer opened with a 1-under 71 and was 2-under through 14 holes in the second round. Ramsey also opened with a 1-under 71 and was 1-under through 14 holes.
Senior Steve Lim and freshman Anthony Paolucci are tied for 24th. Lim opened with a 2-under 70 and was 1-over through 15 holes in the second round. Paolucci carded a 4-over 76 in the first round but had put together a blistering second round that included a streak of five consecutive birdies, seven in all, through 14 holes.
Sophomore Jeffrey Kang is tied for 37th. He also opened with a 1-under 71 but was 3-over in the second round when play was called. Junior Sam Smith is tied for 43rd after opening with a 3-under 69, but going 5-over through 14 holes in the second round.
Play resumes at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
