
USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps At UC San Diego

Tanner Jansen had 14 kills while hitting .417 to lead the No. 5-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-14, 27-25 sweep at UC San Diego in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (Jan. 28).
USC broke a 3-match losing streak while upping its overall record to 4-3 and moving to 3-3 in MPSF play. The Tritons fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 while dropping their fourth consecutive match.
The Trojans hit .309 in the match to UCSD's .122 and had more digs (32 to 24) and blocks (9.0 to 5.0).
Tony Ciarelli added 9 kills and 2 aces for Troy, while Robert Feathers had 7 blocks and Henry Cassiday had 8 digs.
Sebastian Brady led the Tritons with 8 kills while hitting .545 and Mike Brunsting had 7 digs and 3 aces.
USC led the first set 22-21 before the Tritons committed a service error and 2 attack errors to close the set as Troy hit .391. The Trojans rolled off 8 consecutive points to build a 17-11 lead in the second set and were never threatened while hitting .500. USC crept back from a 17-13 deficit in the third set to build a 23-21 lead, but UCSD scored the next 2 points and even led 25-24 before a Ciarelli kill and a pair of Triton attack errors finished the match.
USC now returns home to host UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday (Feb. 1) in a 7:30 p.m. MPSF match in the Galen Center.
