Troy To Host 2011 USC Collegiate Invitational

The No. 24 USC men's golf team (as ranked by Golf World), led by 2010 Freshman All-American T.J. Vogel and 2010 All-Pac-10 second teamer junior Steve Lim, hosts the annual 2011 USC Collegiate Invitational, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 28-March 1), at the North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif.
The 15-team field includes Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Fresno State, Michigan, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Diego State, Stanford, UC Davis, UCLA, USC and Washington. USC last won the team title in 2008. Trojans Rory Hie and Tim Sluiter won the individual title in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
Play will begin with 36 holes Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., and will be followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, starting at 7:30 a.m. (with starting times off both nines). The course plays to a par 71 at 6,869 yards. The event is open to the public and directions are at the end of these notes.

The Trojans, under fifth-year head coach Chris Zambri, have posted four consecutive top 5 results dating back to the fall season and including the first spring event, the Amer Ari Invitational at the start of February.
Vogel, who leads USC in stroke average (72.14), finished the fall with a pair of top 5 finishes, tying for fourth at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at 5-over 215 (68-74-73) and taking second at the U.S. Collegiate Championships at 7-under 209 (74-69-66). He also tied for 20th at the Gifford Intercollegiate. He has 10 career rounds in the 60s.
Lim, who is Troy's active leader in rounds in the 60s (15), is second on the team in stroke average at 73.08. In three fall events, his best effort was a sixth place finish at 3-under 213 (69-69-75) at the U.S. Collegiate Championship. He opened the spring slate with a tie for 22nd at the Amer Ari Invitational at 4-under 212 (70-73-69).
Sophomore Martin Trainer had a pair of top 10 finishes in the fall, including a tie for seventh at the Gifford Intercollegiate at 2-over 215 (73-70-72) and a tie for eighth at the Bill Cullum Invitational at even 216 (71-71-74). He also tied for 26th at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at 14-over 224 (74-78-72).
Freshman Jeffrey Kang notched a career-best tie for fourth at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at 5-over 215 (73-71-71), his best effort in five events this year. He also tied for 33rd at the U.S. Collegiate Championship.
Sophomore Sam Smith has opened the spring season as USC's top golfer, tying for 17th at the Amer Ari Invitational at 5-under 211 (66-69-76) and tying for fourth at the Anteater Invitational at 2-under 214 (71-73-70). He competed in two fall events, tying for 62nd at the U.S. Collegiate Championship and finishing 73rd at the PING-Golfweek Fall Preview.
Senior Bo DeHuff tied for eighth at the Bill Cullum Invitational at even 216 (70-73-73) and tied for 28th at the Anteater Invitational. Freshman Ramsey Sahyoun has played in three events, his best finish a tie for 18th at the Gifford Intercollegiate at 7-over 229 (79-69-72). Sophomore Stewart Hagestad registered a season-best tie for 12th at the Anteater Invitational at 5-over 221 (75-71-75) and was 35th at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational.

From the Hollywood (101) Freeway, headed north, take the Westlake Blvd. off ramp. Go north (right) approximately 2-1/4 miles to Valley Spring Drive. Turn right onto Valley Spring Drive. Go one mile to third stop sign (just past Club View entrance). Turn left into North Ranch Country Club.
