LONG BEACH, CALIF. -- The No. 2 USC women's water polo team came up against a stubborn goalie in Long Beach State's Kristen Stragier, but the Trojans kept firing and blazed their way to a 14-10 win over the host 49ers on Friday afternoon. Ten Women of Troy scored in the victory, led by a hat trick from Patricia Jancso. USC improves to 5-1 with the win.
USC pinned up the first four goals of the game for a nice early boost, and led 5-3 by the end of the first frame. That lead would grow to a 9-5 halftime advantage in the Trojans' favor. Jancso and Nadia Dan had each punched in a pair of goals for USC during the first half. In the second half, the teams each had five goals apiece as the Trojans emerged with the road win. Long Beach State goalie Kristen Stragier had one 5-meter stop against the Trojans in the game on her way to an 11-save outing, but the Trojan firepower was still able to tack up 14 scores down the stretch.
USC's next action takes the Trojans to San Diego tomorrow (Feb. 19) for its MPSF opener against San Diego State at 12 p.m.
