USC opposite/outside hitter Murphy Troy has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week after vaulting the Trojans to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foes UC San Diego and Long Beach State.
The 6-8 junior had 23 kills on .375 hitting, in addition to 7 digs, 3 blocks and 2 assists in USC's 3-2 win over then-No. 14 UC San Diego. He followed by contributing 16 kills (.400), 5 digs, 4 blocks and a service ace in the Trojans' sweep of then-No. 10 Long Beach State. For the week, Troy averaged 4.88 kills, 1.50 digs and 5.56 points per game, with a .385 hitting percentage.
This is the third time Troy has earned Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week honors and the 10th time in history a USC athlete has been recognized. The last Trojan to earn the distinction was Tony Ciarelli on Jan. 19, 2010.
