
No. 2 USC To Face Bruins At Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, CALIF. - The No. 2 USC women's water polo team rounded out group play at the Stanford Invitational with a 14-6 win over No. 6 Michigan to earn a spot in this afternoon's third-place game. The Trojans will face their crosstown rival UCLA for third place at 3:15 p.m. today at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center in a rematch of the 2009 NCAA championship game.
After yesterday's loss to No. 1 Stanford, the Trojans woke up early for their final game of group play with all efforts directed toward securing a place in the third-place game. USC plugged in a whopping seven first-period goals to pound ahead of Michigan, and the Trojans held a 10-4 lead by halftime. USC added four more scores in the third period while shutting out the Wolverines in the frame to pad its lead to 14-4. On the way to USC's final 14-6 victory, nine different Women of Troy got to the back of the net, with goalie Tumua Anae registering eight saves on the defensive end. Forel Davies led the Trojans with a hat trick in the win, with Joelle Bekhazi, Nadia Dan and Sarah Van Norman each scoring a pair of goals.
