Swimmers Sixth At SMU Invite After Day One

USC's men's swimming team is sixth after the first day of competition at the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas, on Friday (Jan. 16).
USC was fifth in the 400y medley relay with junior Zoltan Povazsay, freshman Will Orlady, senior Ankur Poseria and sophomore Buddy Turner finishing in 3:20.97.
Junior James Martin was fifth in the 400y IM in 3:55.32. Junior Vanni Mangoni, swimming in the consolation final heat, went 3:52.61, good for an NCAA `B' cut.
Povazsay, in the 200y free, was fifth (1:38.65). Turner was also fifth in the 50y free (21.03), though Poseria, swimming in the consolation heat, went 20.91.
Poseria was third in the 100y fly (48.45) and Mangoni was fourth in the 100y back (50.35).
Orlady was fifth in the 100y breast (58.12), though senior Kazu Miyahara went faster in the consolation heat, going 57.57.
USC's 800y free relay of Povazsay, Turner, Mangoni and Martin finished fourth in 6:44.00.
