USC Signs Top Setter Kendall Bateman For 2008 Season

LOS ANGELES -- Setter Kendall Bateman (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) has signed a national letter-of-intent to play for the USC women's volleyball program in 2008, head coach Mick Haley announced today.
Bateman, a two-time member of the U.S. Girls' Youth National Team, led the squad to a 10th place finish at the FIVB Girls' World Championship in Mexico this past summer.
"Kendall has played at the highest level possible for her age," said Haley. "Her experience with the U.S. National Team, as well as her accomplishments at the high school and club level, will provide the foundation for our offense in the next four years."
The 5-11 senior earned 2006 Mizuno/Volleyball Magazine All-America first team honors after guiding Mira Costa to a 36-1 record and the school's sixth state championship.
This season, Bateman has led the way as the Mustangs are 30-0 on the season and ranked No. 1 in the nation.
During her career at Mira Costa High, Bateman served as the backup setter to current USC setter Taylor Carico.
"I think she will definitely challenge for playing time next season," said Haley.
