Women's Hoops Routs Washington State, 83-47

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Behind a full team effort, in which the entire bench saw playing time and 10-of-14 scored at least five points, the USC women's basketball team defeated Washington State, 83-47, on Thursday night in Pullman, Wash. With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 12-8 overall and 9-3 in the Pac-10, while the Cougars fall to 5-16 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
USC's 36-point margin of victory over the Cougars is the largest of the season for the Women of Troy. The team was led by the efforts of sophomore guard/forward Meghan Gnekow who contributed 15 points, including a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range and a 6-of-6 effort at the line. Senior forward/center Ebony Hoffman posted her sixth double-double of the season and 34th of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Washington State opened with a 5-0 lead, but it didn't take long for the Women of Troy to turn things around. After the teams reached a 9-9 tie at 15:52, USC began its decisive run. The Trojans held the Cougars scoreless for nearly seven minutes, building a 10-point lead, 19-9, before WSU was able to score again.
USC extended its lead to 30 points, entering halftime with a 46-16 advantage. The Women of Troy forced 16 Cougar turnovers in the first half, collected seven steals and benefited from a 60.0 percent shooting effort from three-point range (4-8).
The Trojans pushed their lead to 37 points, 68-31, with 11:40 on the clock thanks to three-straight three-pointers, including a pair by Gnekow and one by freshman guard Jamie Hagiya. With reserves on the court for the final three minutes, the Women of Troy extended their lead to as much as 39 points on three occasions before the final buzzer.
The Cougars were led by forward Bianca McCall, who collected 13 points and six rebounds, and guard Charmaine Jones, who added 10 points
USC completes its road trip at Washington this Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m.
