Emily Adams Named To Academic All-District First Team

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - USC women's volleyball junior Emily Adams, a 2002 AVCA First Team All-American, has been named to the 2003 Academic All-District VIII first team, while teammate Toni Anderson earned third team honors. The announcement was made on Thursday, Nov. 13, by the CoSIDA District VIII committee.
This is the first-ever honor for both Adams and Anderson, who both earned Pac-10 All-Academic accolades in 2002.
Adams, among six athletes selected from District VIII, will now be included on the national women's volleyball Academic All-American ballot. First, second and third team national winners will be announced on Dec. 5.
Athletes must have at least a 3.20 GPA, be a "starter" or "important reserve" on their team and must be in at least their second season at their school to be eligible. Adams is an international relations major with a 3.67 cumulative grade point average. Anderson is a psychology major with a 3.22 GPA.
Both starters have helped lead USC to a No. 1 ranking and 24-0 record this season. Adams currently leads the nation with a .469 attack percentage and leads her team with an average of 1.52 blocks and 4.69 points per game. Anderson, a fourth-year starter, leads the team and ranks fifth in the Pac-10 with 10.26 assists per game.
