SEATTLE (AP) - Southern California inched a little closer to earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament as Jeff Trepagnier scored 22 points and led the Trojans to an 85-56 victory over the Washington Huskies Thursday night.
The Trojans' last appearance in the tournament was in 1997, and they've made it three times in the last 15 years.
The Trojans (20-9, 10-7 Pac-10) swept the season series with Washington, and have won the last five meetings between the two teams.
Trepagnier had a lot success against the Huskies in 2000. In the Trojans' 87-61 win over Washington on Jan. 6, he scored a career-high 28 points.
Brandon Granville scored 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Sam Clancy had 16 points.
Washington (9-20, 3-14) has lost eight consecutive games. The Huskies also lost starting center Marlon Shelton with a torn ligament in his left knee, an injury he suffered while going for a rebound midway through the second half.
The Huskies reached 20 losses for the third time in school history. The last time was the 1993-94 season when they finished 5-22, coach Bob Bender's first season at Washington.
Will Perkins scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Washington. It was his 10th double-double of the season. Michael Johnson added 11 points.
The Trojans jumped out to a 10-0 advantage, making five of their first six field goal attempts over the first 2:30 of the game. Shelton ended the run with a layup 10 seconds later.
USC continued to build on its lead, going up 40-20 before the Huskies cut into the lead with a 9-0 run that was capped by Curtis Allen's breakaway reverse layup with 1:45 left in the half. The Trojans responded and rebuilt their lead to 48-31 at the half.
