Berkeley, Calif. -- The No. 1/5 ranked USC women's volleyball team kept its win streak alive by defeating Cal 3-0 (15-9, 15-7, 15-7) Saturday, Sept. 23, at RSF Fieldhouse in Berkeley. With their 27th consecutive game victory this season, the Women of Troy (9-0, 4-0 Pac-10) tie the program's all-time game win streak previously set in 1977 en route to USC's second national championship.
Cal (5-5, 1-3) posed a threat in the first game of the night by quickly jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Despite the hitting effort displayed by Alicia Perry who collected seven kills in the set, the Trojans staged a comeback. After claiming the 15-9 victory in game one, USC captured games two and three by identical 15-7 scores.
In its longest match of the season, USC hit .336 and tallied 11.0 team blocks thanks to the efforts of freshman middle blocker Katie Olsovsky who added a season-high seven stops. Olsovsky and Pahl led the squad with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while hitter April Ross posted a team-leading 15 digs. Cal was led by Perry who completed the match with 19 kills and 11 digs.
USC will return to its home court on Friday, Sept. 29, to face Oregon State. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and can be heard live on USC's internet broadcast on usctrojans.com.
