Volleyball Keeps Win Streak Alive

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The top-ranked USC women's volleyball team (7-0, 2-0 Pac-10) continues to roll through the 2000 schedule, collecting its seventh-straight 3-0 victory of the season. In front of 439 at North Gym, the Trojans defeated Washington (4-4, 0-2) 15-7, 15-5, 15-5 and extended a 21-game win streak.
USC displayed a powerful offensive attack hitting .424 and adding 46 kills in the match, but dominated defensively with 12.0 blocks and 40 digs. Washington tallied 6.0 stops, 24 digs and hit .153 for the night.
Down by 12 points (2-14) in the first game, Washington managed to hold the Women of Troy at game point to post its next five points. Despite the effort, a Huskie attack error capped off a 15-7 Trojan win. In game two, USC capitalized on seven Washington errors to jump out to a 10-0 lead. USC junior Jennifer Pahl served five straight points in the game which ended 15-5 in USC's favor. By an identical score (15-5) USC concluded the match in game three.
The Trojans had four players hit above .500 in the one-hour, 13 minute match - April Ross (.562, 9-0-16), Lauren Killian (.545, 8-2-11), Katie Olsovsky (.538, 8-1-13) and Pahl (.500, 9-1-16). Senior Antoinette Polk led with 13 digs, while Pahl and Olsovsky each added five blocks. Washington was led by hitters Emily Seacat and Paige Benjamin who added 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
USC travels to the Bay Area next week to face Stanford and Cal. The USC-Stanford match on Friday, Sept. 22, will be televised on the Fox Sports Network and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The Women of Troy will face Cal on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.
