USC Men's Volleyball Rolls Through UC Santa Cruz

LOS ANGELES -- Mark Dusharme had 21 kills while hitting. 679, both match highs, to lead the No. 3-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 15-8, 15-5, 15-9 victory over NCAA Division III opponent UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference match on Friday (Feb. 25) in the USC North Gym.
USC snapped a 2-match losing streak to improve to 11-2 overall, while the Banana Slugs--ranked No. 10 in Division III--dropped their sixth consecutive match to fall to 1-6.
Trevor Julian added 14 kills for the Trojans, while teammate Beau Rawi had 10 kills and 5 blocks.
Lawrence Whang led UC Santa Cruz with 15 kills while hitting .542.
USC outhit (.367 to .011) and outblocked (13.0 to 8.0) UC Santa Cruz.
The Trojans were without kill leaders Brook Billings (who missed his fourth straight match) and Eli Fairfield (out for his second match in a row), who are nursing stress fractures in their legs. Both could return for USC's next match, at top- ranked Pepperdine on Tuesday (Feb. 29) in a key Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest.
