
USC Women's Water Polo Opens Season With A Win

SAN DIEGO -- Nina Wengst scored 7 goals to lead the defending national champion USC women's water polo team to a 12-8 win at San Diego State on Thursday (Feb. 10) in the season opener for both teams.
Play was fairly even in the first quarter, but the Women of Troy jumped ahead 6-3 in the second and held off a late fourth-quarter Aztec run.
All of Wengst's goals came in the second and third quarters.
San Diego State's Larisa Baltgalvis and Amber Prestegard scored 3 goals apiece.
The two teams meet again on Friday (Feb. 11) in the first round of the UC San Diego Invitational.
