CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 4/5 USC women's volleyball team (18-1, 11-1 Pac-10) swept Oregon State, 3-0, Thursday night in front of 579 at Gill Coliseum. The Women of Troy hit .405 and collected 15.0 blocks en route to the 15-7, 15-5, 15-1 victory over the Beavers.
"What the scores don't tell is that it was a well-played volleyball match where both sides had to work hard to do things well on their side. USC just did things a little better, and they're supposed to - they're the No. 4 team in the country," said Oregon State head coach (and former USC assistant coach) Nancy Somera.
The Trojans added 56 kills in the three-game effort, and held Oregon State to 42 kills, 5.0 blocks and a .109 attack percentage. Aside from surpassing the Beavers at the net, USC and OSU matched each other defensively, posting 43 and 42 digs respectively.
The Women of Troy were led by outside hitter Janae Henry who contributed a double-double on the night (10 kills, 12 digs), along with freshman middle blocker Katie Olsovsky who added a team-high 12 kills (.667) and seven blocks. Junior middle blocker Jennifer Pahl also averaged a .667 attack percentage, posting 10 kills and six blocks on the night.
Oregon State outside hitter Gina Schmidt turned in team-highs of 11 kills and 14 digs but finished with a .000 attack percentage after committing 11 errors in the match.
USC will next face Oregon in Eugene on Friday (Oct. 27) night. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
