LOS ANGELES - Point guard Rashad Jones from San Jose (Calif.) City College has signed a letter of intent with USC, men's basketball coach Henry Bibby announced today.
"Rashad was overlooked by a lot of people and we are very pleased to add him to our team," Bibby said. "He's a kid who will solidify our backcourt and give us another point guard. He comes from a good, fundamentally sound program and can run the team well on the floor"
The 6-foot-2 Jones earned All-Coast Conference first team honors as a sophomore in 1998-99 after averaging 15.7 points, 6.0 assists and 3.1 steals per game in leading the Jaguars to a 19-10 mark. He made 50.4 percent of his field goal attempts (120-of-238) and shot 80.1 percent from the foul line (125-of-156). He also made 10-of-19 three-point attempts.
A team captain this past season, Jones made three All-Tournament teams, including being selected the Chabot Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Jones, who went to Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, will enter USC as a junior.
