ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 3 USC women's volleyball lost a heartbreaker to No. 2 Long Beach State, 15-7, 10-15, 15-1, 9-15, 15-12, in the championship match of the New Mexico Tournament on Saturday.
The Women of Troy fell to 1-1 after opening the season with a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin in the first round of the tournament.
Senior outside hitter Jennifer Kessy led USC with 24 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Kashi Cormier had 11 kills and 12 digs and sophomore outside hitter Janae Henry had 12 kills and 11 digs.
USC hit just .179 compared to Long Beach State's .228.
The Women of Troy are back in action on Sept. 4-5 at the University of San Francisco/St. Mary's College Power Bar Invitational.
The first home match for USC is on Sept. 25 against Oregon State.
