Women's Volleyball Falls to Stanford, 3-1

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 9 Stanford women's volleyball team upset No. 5 USC in four games to open Pac-10 Play at Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 10-15, 15-3, 15-9 and 15-12.
With the victory, Stanford increased its home conference win streak to 37 games.
Almost 2,600 fans attended the 2 1/2 hour marathon. This match marks the 14th victory in a row for the Cardinal over USC. Stanford holds the all-time edge over the Women of Troy 40-8.
Junior outside hitter Kerri Walsh posted game-highs in kills (24) and digs (18) for the Cardinal, while teammate and sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Detmer added a career-high 23 kills and six blocks. Sophomore setter Robyn Lewis recorded a career-high 66 assists.
Jasmina Marinkovic registered 24 kills for USC.
The Women of Troy drop to 4-3 on the season, 0-1 in Pac-10 play.
With tonight's loss and a defeat to Wisconsin Sept. 12, USC dropped two matches in a row for the first time since 1996, those losses coming to Stanford and Oregon.
Stanford improved to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
USC next travels to Berkeley to face California on Sunday at 1 p.m.
