LOS ANGELES - The USC women's basketball team snapped it's seven game losing streak with a 76-71, victory over California on Friday night at the Lyon Center.
USC improves to 7-14 overall and 3-9 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 8-12, 2-9.
Freshman guard Tiffany Elmore led all scorers with a career-high tying 24 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Tashara Carter collected her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward/center Tiffany Washington had nine points and 13 rebounds. Senior center Adrain Williams returned to the court for USC after missing the last five games with a right ankle injury. Williams posted 14 points. USC outrebounded California 50 to 36, with 28 rebounds in the second half.
"We got it done on the boards. We kept getting the second shot with good offensive rebounding and it made the difference in the game." said USC head coach Chris Gobrecht.
California was up 38-31 in the second half and held the lead until USC tied it up at 51. The Women of Troy used a ten to zero run to push them ahead with 7:42 remaining, 58-51. The Bears tied it with 1:32 at 69-69, but could not regain the lead.
"I'm really happy for the team. It has been so difficult and they keep fighting, battling and coming to play. We finally got one, we have been so close so many times this year." said Gobrecht. The Women of Troy will host Stanford on Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Network.
