Women's Volleyball Unable To Upset Cardinal

Stanford, Calif. - OH's Antoinette Polk, Janae Henry, joined MB Jennifer Pahl with nine kills each for USC in a 3-0 defeat (15-3, 15-11, 15-7) at the hands of second-ranked Stanford, Saturday night (November 6) at Maples Pavilion. The Trojans hold on to third-place standing in the Pac-10, while Stanford remains a half-game behind No. 7 UCLA for the conference title.
The Women of Troy fall to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the Pac-10. Stanford extends its win-streak to 20 matches with a 21-2 overall mark and 13-1 record in conference play.
Stanford rolled to a quick 15-3 victory in game one. However, USC started the second game on fire and led 6-2 before Stanford rolled off five straight points to take its first lead of the game at 7-6. The teams would stay close with the game tied at 11-11 before the Cardinal recorded the last four points of the game to go ahead in the match, 2-0.
USC again jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third game before Stanford scored seven unanswered points to go ahead, 8-5. USC scored the next two points to close the gap to 8-7 but the Cardinal then finished off the Women of Troy with the final seven points of the match.
Stanford hit .357 and had 11.0 team blocks, while USC hit just .147 with three team stops.
Troy returns home to face Oregon and Oregon State next weekend. The Trojans and Ducks will face on Friday, November 12 at the USC Lyon Center. The match will be televised on Fox Sports West and is scheduled to begin locally at 7:30 pm. The USC-Oregon State match will be Saturday, November 13 in the North Gym at 6 p.m.
