Los Angeles, Calif. -- Junior OH Antoinette Polk (15 kills, .480) led a dominating Trojan offense to lead No.16 USC in a three-game sweep (15-3, 15-2, 15-6) over Oregon State tonight, Friday, November 12, at North Gym. Six Trojans hit above .333 on the night and contributed to the team's second-best offensive performance of the season.
USC improves to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in the Pac-10. Oregon State falls to 8-16 overall and 2-14 in conference play. With one conference match left this season, the Trojans have ensured a third-place finish in the Pac-10.
MB Jennifer Pahl (9 kills, 16 attacks) and Amber Oliver (5 kills, 8 attacks) led the Women of Troy in attack percentage, each hitting .500 in the match. In addition to Polk's 15-kill effort, OH Janae Henry pounded 12 kills off of 23 attacks (.348) and OH Kashi Cormier added 10 kills (.333). Troy's ace, DS Julie Mariani added another three service aces in the match, while setter Tracy Lindquist averaged 14.67 assists per game.
The Beavers were led by MB Angie Shirley who posted eight kills off of 20 attacks (.350). OH Gina Schmidt and MB Michelle Soloman each added seven kills, while Soloman led the match with three total blocks.
USC tallied 11 consecutive points in game one to lead the Beavers 11-0. Three Trojan errors then awarded Oregon State's only points, before Henry capped off a game one victory (15-3) with a kill. The Women of Troy again dominated much of the action in game two by quickly taking a 4-0 lead. Oregon State got on the board following a kill by both Shirley and Schmidt, but unable to add to the score, surrendered the match, 15-2. Eager to set the pace in game three, Oregon State forced a USC attack error to earn the first point. The tables quickly turned and the Trojans forced the Beavers to four attack errors for the final points in a 15-6 win.
The Women of Troy will host crosstown rival UCLA on Friday, November 19 in their final conference showdown. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the North Gym.
