Los Angeles, Calif. -- Freshman OH Lauren Killian posted a career-best 12 kills and .647 attack percentage to lead No.16 USC in a three-game sweep (15-3, 15-6, 15-6) over Oregon tonight, Friday, November 12, at the USC Lyon Center. With a .405 attack percentage, the Trojans have recorded their two best offensive performances of the season against the Ducks after having hit for .500 at Oregon (Oct. 18).
USC improves to 17-6 overall and 12-4 in the Pac-10. Oregon falls to 7-18 overall and 1-15 in conference play. With a guaranteed third-place finish in the Pac-10, USC has nearly ensured a 1999 postseason berth.
Killian's efforts were accompanied by MB Amber Oliver who hit for a season-best .700 (7 kills, 10 attacks) in only her third start since returning from an ankle injury. Setter Hiedi Munneke, entering the match in game three, added two kills (.667) and 13 assists, while OH Janae Henry covered all areas with nine kills (.353), 10 digs and three blocks (both team-highs).
The Ducks were held to a -.048 attack percentage on the night, but despite not being able to compete offensively with the Trojans, Oregon put forth a strong effort at the net with 4.0 team blocks all due to the efforts of MBs Laura Norton and Nicole Allen. The Ducks' bright spot came from OH Julie Gerlach who pounded three kills off of four attacks (.750) on the night.
Troy will look to complete a four-match sweep of the Oregon schools tomorrow night (Nov. 13) against Oregon State. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the North Gym.
