A two-time All-American and an NCAA champion as a player at USC, James Shin enters his first season as an assistant coach for the USC women after serving last season as director of operations for the USC water polo program. He continues to serve as director of operations on the men's side.
Shin graduated from USC with a degree in international business after playing four years under head coach Jovan Vavic and assistant Marko Pintaric from 2001-04. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in Divinity from Biola University in 2011. He served as a high school pastor for a church in Anaheim before moving to Long Beach, where he was the college and young adult pastor at Cornerstone Church for 4.5 years. He is passionate about working with college athletes because of their unique life stage and their drive to succeed in and out of pool.
Shin and his wife, Sharon, were married in 2015.
