THIS SEASON: One of USC[apos]s top returning butterflyers, 2008 senior Emily Goetsch is a former All-American looking to return to the NCAA Championships for the fourth year in a row.
2007: As a 2007 junior, raced in two events at the 2007 NCAA Championships, finishing 38th in the 200y fly (55.04) and 40th in the 200y fly (2:02.35) ... At the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, she was 13th in the 100y fly (54.85), 20th in the 500y free (4:51.81) and 21st in the 200y fly (2:03.86). Her time of 2:00.41 in the 200y fly earlier in the year was USC[apos]s second-fastest of the season.
2006: Goetsch competed at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season as a 2006 sophomore, finishing 20th in the 200y fly (2:00.19) and 29th in the 100y fly (54.56) ... At the 2006 Pac-10 Championships, Goetsch was eighth in the 100y fly (54.83), 12th in the 200y fly (2:01.91) and 20th in the 500y free (4:55.86) ... Her 1:58.98 in the 200y fly in USC[apos]s dual-meet win over UCLA was a Trojan season best ... She earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors.
2005: Goetsch earned All-American honors as a 2005 freshman as part of USC[apos]s eighth-place 800y free relay. Individually, she swam in the consolation final of the 100y fly (53.99), taking 14th, was 18th in the 200y fly (1:59.78) and was 42nd in the 500y free (4:51.63). She also anchored USC[apos]s 400y free relay ... At the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, Goetsch was a two-time finalist, taking fourth in the 100y fly (54.20) and seventh in the 200y fly (1:59.32). She was also 13th in the 500y free (4:50.41) ... At the 2005 U.S. World Championships Trials, Goetsch finished 30th in the 100m fly (1:02.67) ... At the 2005 U.S. Summer Nationals, she earned a pair of second swims, taking 14th in the 100m fly (1:02.07) and 20th in the 200m fly (2:15.52).
HIGH SCHOOL: One of the nation[apos]s top prep butterflyers while in school, Goetsch graduated from Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, Md., in 2003 but delayed her entry into USC to train for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials (where she competed in the 100m and 200m fly) ... She won the 100m fly at the 2003 U.S. Summer Nationals and reached the final of the 200m fly. She was also third in the 100m fly and fourth in the 200m fly at the 2003 U.S. Spring Nationals ... Was a member of the U.S. team for its 2003 Duel in the Pool against Australia ... Was a prep All-American in 2002.
CLUB: North Baltimore Aquatic Club.
PERSONAL: She was born on Aug. 9, 1985 ... She is an art history major ... Her father, Scott, played basketball at Duke and her brother, Ben, plays basketball and high jumps at Washington Lee ... Trained with North Baltimore Aquatics, the same club attended by Michael Phelps.
