THIS SEASON: Freshman Amanda Hardy, a former prep water polo star, hopes to turn her sprinter's speed into an asset for the Trojans in her first year with the USC swim squad.
HIGH SCHOOL: Hardy prepped at Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson High, where she was a two-sport star in swimming and water polo ... She originally signed to play water polo at USC, but switched to swimming prior to the start of the season ... She was a Long Beach Press Telegram "Dream Team" selection in swimming and water polo as a junior and a senior ... She was her school's water polo MVP as a junior and a senior, helping lead Long Beach Wilson to CIF Division I titles both seasons ... She was also part of Wilson's 2005 CIF swimming title and helped Wilson to Moore League team titles each year she competed ... Hardy trained with the Youth National Women's Water Polo Team from 2005-2007 (she was tabbed Most Outstanding player in 2006) and competed with the Junior National Women's Water Polo team in 2007 ... She also competed in water polo at the 2006 Junior Pan Pacific Championships ... Graduated as a Distinguished Scholar from Wilson and earned Academic All-American and CIF All-Academic honors in 2007 and 2008.
CLUB: Shore Aquatics (water polo).
PERSONAL: She was born on Sept. 14, 1990 ... Older sister Jessica was a two-time NCAA champion in the 100y breast at California (2006, 2007) and trained with Trojan Swim Club.
