THIS SEASON: Alexa Melton, a 2021-22 junior in her second year at USC after transferring last season, looks to build on her sophomore start with the Trojans to compete for a starting role.

2021 Melton competed in three events as a 2021 sophomore transfer, finishing with a 74.67 stroke average. She made her Trojan debut at the Sun Devil Winter Classic, playing individually, and took ninth 1-over 217 with an opening round 69. She tied for 20th at the Silverado Showdown in her only start, helping USC to the tournament title … Melton was one of two Trojans who made the cut at the 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur and tied for 28th.
PEPPERDINE: Melton, as a 2020 freshman, was second on the Waves' squad with a 73.50 stroke average in six tournaments. Included in Golfweek's "Top 10 Freshman to Watch" entering the season, Melton took second at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at 9-under 207 (68-71-68) -- tying the sixth-best 54-hole score in Pepperdine history in relation to par -- and tied for fourth at the Dick McGuire Invitational at 6-under 210 (69-68-73) in her collegiate debut … She was selected to play in the 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur before the event was canceled. She posted a pair of top 36 finishes in the first two events of the spring season before deciding to transfer.
HIGH SCHOOL: Melton, who didn't take up golf until she was 12, is a graduate of South Hills High in Covina … She was the 2018-19 Orange County Register Golfer of the Year and earned AJGA second-team All-American honors as a senior. She tied for second at the 2018-19 CIF State Golf Championship and was third at the Rolex Tournament of Champions … She won the 2019 SCGA Women's Amateur at Valencia CC at 9-under, the lowest score in relation to par in the tournament's history and tied for third in the Girls Junior PGA Championship. She later won the prestigious Thunderbird International Junior, posting a two-stroke win with two late birdies.

PERSONAL: She is a communication major … Her father Dan played baseball at Cal Poly Pomona … She lists former Trojan All-American Lizette Salas as her biggest golf influence.
