Aarika Hughes enters her fourth season on the coaching staff at USC and is in her second season as associate head coach. She was a player for Mark Trakh when he first served as head coach at USC from 2005-09. A 2010 graduate of USC, Hughes went on to coach AAU teams in Oregon before joining Trakh’s New Mexico State staff as an assistant in 2011. While working under Trakh with the Aggies, she was named one of the WBCA’s Top Thirty Coaches Under 30. She was an assistant for Trakh at New Mexico State for five seasons — helping the Aggies to back-to-back NCAA appearances — before moving to New Mexico as an assistant for the 2016-17 season.
“Aarika is a Trojan, and I’ve been able to see her grow into a great coach,” Trakh said of Hughes. “She is a fantastic recruiter with a fantastic personality, and she really knows her Xs and 0s. She is a great on-floor coach and players really love her. She has a very bright future ahead of her.”
