THIS YEAR: Redshirt sophomore Zyaire Clemes begins his second season as a sprinter for USC. He attended Florida State in 2015, but did not compete and came to USC with four seasons of eligibility.
2016: Battled leg injuries much of the season, but ran in the 400m at the Pac-12 Championships and placed fourth with a time of 47.06. Went on to place 14th at the NCAA West Regional in the 400m with a time of 46.74. Had a season-best time of 46.68 in the 400m at the Trojan Invitational on March 19, his first race of the season.
BEFORE USC: Clemes was a member of the Florida State track and field team in 2015, but used it as a redshirt season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Clemes graduated from Trenton Central High in 2014. He has bests of 46.26 in the 400m, 21.29 in the 200m and 10.45 in the 100m. As a senior he ranked sixth nationally in the 400m dash and placed second in the event at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a time of 46.57. He owns the third-fastest 400m time in New Jersey high school history and set the state 300m record with a time of 33.64, breaking a record which had stood since 2002. PERSONAL: Zyaire was born on Dec. 21, 1995...His mother is Florine Clemes and he has one sibling, Alexis Nottingham...His sports hero is Marvin Harrison...Lists his favorite food as pasta...One day would like to travel to China...Says he would like to own a sports team...He is a Communications major at USC.
