Bio
THIS SEASON:, Graduate student Michael Krone begins his first season as a high jumper for the Trojans. He transferred to USC from with one season of eligibility remaining.
BEFORE USC: Krone graduated in 2014 from Duke with a degree in mechanical engineering. He placed 26th at the 2014 East Preliminary Rounds with a clearance of 6-10.75 (2.10m)...also placed seventh at the ACC Championships with a best jump of 6-8.25 (2.04m). He had a 2014 indoor best twice of 6-10.75, good to finish second at the Virginia Tech Invitational and eighth at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. Limited to two indoor meets due to injury in 2013, tying for sixth at the ACC Indoor Championships with a clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m). In 2012, he won the high jump title at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a PR of 7-3.75 (2.23m), strengthening his hold on second on the Duke[apos]s all-time list. He cleared 7-0.50 at the IC4A Championships to finish second and earn All-East honors. He battling injury, he placed 38th at the 2012 East Preliminary Rounds. Began his Duke career indoors at the 2011 Virginia Tech Invitational, where he placed eighth at 6-8.25. He had a season-best clearance of 7-0.25 in the preliminaries at the Armory Collegiate. He placed sixth at the ACC Indoor Championships with a clearance of 6-10.75. He also cleared 6-10.75 at the IC4A Championships to finish fifth, earning All-East honors and helping Duke to the team title. Cleared 6-9.00 to take 16th at the East Preliminary Rounds. He was named to the 2012 Division I All-Academic Team and was selected to the ACC All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2014.
HIGH SCHOOL: He is a 2010 graduate of Conestoga HS in Berwyn, Pa. He was a four-year letterwinner and placed first in the high jump at the Central League Championships as a junior and senior. He took third in the high jump at the PIAA District I Championships in 2009. Earned first team All-Main Line honors and was named honorable mention All-South Eastern Pennsylvania and first team All-Central League as a senior. He was a member of the first-place 4x400m team at the Central League Championships and came in eighth place at the PIAA District I Championships in both the high jump and the 4x400m...also lettered in soccer. He served as president of the chess team and was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. He was also a U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.
PERSONAL: Michael was born on September 24, 1991 in Fort Worth, Texas...He is the son of Helen and Roger Krone and has two siblings, David and Lauren...He is pursuing a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering at USC...He participated in the Read With the Blue Devils community service program...His hobbies include soccer and tennis...His favorite food is Chicken Parmesan. Lists his favorite actor as Christian Bale, favorite musical artist as Zedd and favorite movie as Gladiator...Says his sports hero is Roger Federer because he is the greatest champion in tennis and is mentally tough...His goals after USC include competing in the Olympics.
