THIS YEAR:
Redshirt senior Kristine Busa (BOO-sha) will finish her Trojan career this season as one of the top female javelin throwers in USC history. She has the second-farthest toss ever by a Trojan female of 179-1 (54.78m), seven-feet, nine-inches off the school record. Missed last season due to a knee injury.
2011:
Had surgery to repair a meniscus tear in her right knee on March 16 and missed the entire season.
2010:
Had a season-best throw of 172-7 (52.61m) at the Trojan Invitational on March 20 to finish second, one inch behind Marissa Tschida the eventual Pac-10 champion...those were the top two collegiate marks at that point in the season. Placed third at the Pac-10 Championships with a mark of 160-8 (48.98m). Struggled at the NCAA Qualifying Rounds in Austin, Texas with a best throw of 149-4 and did not advance to the NCAA Championships. Won the javelin at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 1 with a throw of 151-0.
2009:
While competing at the European U23 Championships on July 18 in Kaunas, Lithuania, established a new PR with a throw of 179-1 (54.78m) to finish in seventh place. Set a then PR of 173-4 1/4 (52.84m) to finish third at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 17...finishing one-inch in front of her was USC javelin record-holder Inga Stasiulionyte. Took second in the javelin at the Pac-10 Championships with a throw of 168-7 (51.39m). Also placed second at the West Regional with a throw of 167-1 (50.94m). Earned All-America honors in the javelin by finishing eighth at the NCAA Championships with a throw of 164-9 (50.21m).
2008:
Busa wasted little time in making her mark at USC by posting the third-farthest javelin throw by a Trojan female of 164-1 (50.01m) at the Trojan Relays on March 1, her first collegiate meet. She bettered that mark with the second-best javelin throw of 169-7 (51.70) at the Trojan Invitational on March 22, to trail only Stasiulionyte[apos]s school record of 186-10 (56.95) set in 2002. She won the javelin competition at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on May 3 with a throw of 161-6 (49.23m). She then placed fifth in the javelin at both the Pac-10 Championships and the NCAA West Regional with throws of 158-4 (48.26m) and 158-1 (48.18m) respectively. Threw the javelin 150-11 (46.00m) in the preliminaries at the NCAA Championships and did not advance to the finals.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Attended Rigas Secondary School No. 25 in Latvia. ..Competed at the European Junior Championships in 2007...Has a career best in the javelin of 166-6 (50.74m).
PERSONAL:
Kristine was born on May 5, 1988 in Riga, Latvia...Likes to dance and listen to music in her spare time...Among her favorite musicians are Coldplay, Nickelback, Linkin Park and Akon...Favorite movies are Transporter and The Hangover...She is an Economics major at USC.
