Galen Dodd, who despite his youth already has experience coaching at the club and USA Volleyball levels, is in his first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the USC men's volleyball team.
He served as an assistant coach with Balboa Bay Volleyball Club (2014-15), which won a bronze medal with the U16 Boys at the 2015 Junior Olympics, and Southern California Volleyball Club (2012-14). He also was SCVC's co-director of girls' development (2013-14).
With USA Volleyball, he was an apprentice coach in 2014 and 2015 at the Boys High Performance Championships (his 2015 team won the gold medal) and in 2013 with the Girls Select A3 team. He also was an assistant coach in 2014 at the Girls Future Select Skills camp.
Dodd, 19, was a member of the Orange Coast College team in 2015 as a freshman, but did not see any action. A leg ligament injury suffered in the summer of 2015 ended his playing career.
He played 4 seasons (2011-14) at Palisades High in Pacific Palisades (Calif.). He made the 2014 All-L.A. City Division I second team and All-Western League first team. Palisades won the 2012 L.A. City Division I championship.
While at Palisades, he also served as a student assistant coach with the girls' team, which won the 2011 and 2012 CIF Division I titles.
He played club volleyball with HighLine and SCVC. SCVC won a silver medal at the 2013 Junior Olympics.
He was born on Feb. 13, 1996.
