THIS SEASON: Junior Luke Tanner is an improved freestyler who made his NCAA Championships debut as a sophomore last year. He is looking to build on that appearance as he works toward making his first conference final and NCAA individual appearance.
2009: Tanner was an NCAA Championships participant as a 2009 sophomore, racing in the 200y, 400y and 800y free relay ... He also competed in three events at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships, taking 15th in the 200y free (1:37.17), 20th in the 100y free (44.56) and 24th in the 50y free (20.42).
2008: Tanner raced in three events at the Pac-10s, taking 21st in both the 100y (45.66) and 200y free (1:40.51) and 35th in the 50y free (21.12).
HIGH SCHOOL: Tanner, who has only been swimming full time for a handful of years, prepped at Shawnee East Mission in Shawnee Mission, Kan., where he led his school to three consecutive state championships ... Was a finalist for 2007 Kansas Male Athlete of the Year .... The 2006 and 2007 Kansas City Star[apos]s All-Metro boys swimmer of the year, he won the 100 and 200y free at the Kansas state meet in 2006, breaking an 18-year-old record in the 100 prelims.
