BREAKDOWN: Derryck Thornton is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard who transferred to USC from Duke before the 2016-17 season. He played two seasons for USC and provided the Trojans with scoring, quickness, defense and great passing.
2018-19: Thornton played in 32 games and made 27 starts for USC, averaging 7.7 points 2.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He led USC with 139 assists which ranked fifth among Pac-12 players. He also had a 2.2 assist to turnover ration which ranked third among Pac-12 players. He scored a season-high 17 points vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 11. He scored 12 points, had six rebounds and six assists vs. Missouri State on Nov. 20...he also made a career-best four three-point baskets (4 of 5). He suffered a sprained ankle in practice on Nov. 24 and missed the game on Nov. 25 vs. CSU Bakersfield. Came back with 13 points and six assists vs. Long Beach State on Nov. 28. Opened Pac-12 play with 13 points, a career-high 12 assists, no turnovers and seven rebounds vs. California on Jan. 3, his first career double-double. He followed that up with 13 points and nine assists vs. Stanford on Jan. 6. He twice had a career-best seven rebound, Jan. 3 vs. California and Feb. 9 vs. Colorado. He had seven games with no turnovers. USC was 11-3 in games he had 5 or more assists.
2017-18: Appeared in 25 games in his first season playing for USC and averaged 3.8 points and 1.4 rebounds. In the opener vs. CS Fullerton on Nov. 10, he scored a season-high 11 points, grabbed a season-best four rebounds and matched a career-high with three 3-point baskets. Suffered a dislocated right shoulder in practice on Nov. 28 and missed the next nine games. He returned to action on Dec. 31 vs. Washington State and scored two points in nine minutes of action. He scored eight points and had a career-high four steals on Jan. 10 vs. Colorado. Made his only start of the season on Feb. 10 at Arizona and scored seven points and had three assists. He made his first 21 free throws before missing on his fourth attempt on March 3 vs. UCLA. He finished the season making 23 of 27 free throws for a team-leading 85.2 percent. He missed the first two games of the Pac-12 Tournament with an upper respiratory infection. He returned to play two minutes in the Pac-12 Tournament final vs. Arizona on March 10. He scored eight points by making 3 of 4 shots vs. UNC Asheville in the NIT opener on March 13.

2015-16: Thornton started at point guard in 20 of Duke's 36 games last season and averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists per game. He was second on the team in total assists (93) and sixth in total points (255) and minutes played (935). His assist total ranks 10th all-time on Duke's freshman list and his 1.58:1 assist to turnover ratio ranks tied for seventh all-time by a Blue Devils' freshman. He had 17 assists and six turnovers in Duke's last five games of the season. The Blue Devils went 15-5 in his 20 starts and he averaged 8.7 points in those games. He scored in double figures seven times, with a season-best of 19 points vs. VCU on Nov. 20, 2015. He had five or more assists four times, with a season-best of seven vs. Virginia Tech on Jan. 9, 2016.
HIGH SCHOOL: Thornton graduated from Findlay Prep (Nev.) in 2015 as the No. 11 ranked player by Scout.com and the No. 14 ranked player by Rivals.com. He was rated as the No. 13 player in the 2015 class by the Recruiting Services Consensus Index. He reclassified to 2015 to graduate early, after leading Findlay Prep to a 29-3 record and averaging 17.0 points, 6.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game as a junior. Thornton led his team to the semifinals of the Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals tournament in 2015. As a sophomore, he helped lead Findlay Prep to a 31-5 record while averaging 11.6 points and 7.7 assists per game. Thornton was named to the 2013-14 U.S. Basketball men's Developmental National Team on March 27, 2013. He played his freshman season at Sierra Canyon High and led the Trailblazers to a 17-11 record and guided them to CIF SS 4AA second round. he averaged 15.9 points, 7.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.
PERSONAL: Derryck was born on May 30, 1997 in Los Angeles, Calif. He is the son on Derryck Thornton, Sr. who played collegiately at Azusa Pacific and professionally in Germany. His mother's name is Liz and he has three sisters, Brandee, Skylar and Jordyn. He is interested in music and makes beats in his spare time. Lists he favorite actors as Will Smith and Eddie Murphy and his favorite musical artist as Drake. He would like to travel to Spain some day. Is a Business major at USC.
