Unlike the formulaic BCS system which is in its final season, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee will choose the four-team field based on a number of factors including win-loss record, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, conference champions, key injuries and common opponents. The committee will meet several times throughout the season to prepare "interim rankings."
The College Football Playoff will begin next season (2014-15) with two semifinal games (No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3) and the national championship rotating annually between traditional bowl game cities Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, New Orleans, Pasadena and Phoenix. The 2014-15 semifinals will be played January 1, 2015 at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the national championship will be decided at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on January 12, 2015.
