BREAKDOWN: Junior small forward Max Agbonkpolo (AG-bonk-polo) is a 6-9, 195-pound versatile, multi-talented athlete who has showed much promise for the Trojans both offensively and defensively. His ball handling, length and three-point shooting make him a hard matchup for opponents.
2020-21: Agbonkpolo appeared in all 33 games,(2 starts) and averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds. He was sixth on the team in minutes played. Started vs. UC Irvine on Dec. 8 and scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Also started March 6 at UCLA and had 4 points, 3 rebounds and a steal. He scored 5 points, had 5 rebounds and a key steal and dunk in win at Stanford on Feb. 2. He averaged 5.3 points in USC’s four NCAA Tournament games, scoring a season-high 9 points vs. Oregon in USC’s Sweet 16 victory on March 28.
2019-20: Agbonkpolo appeared in 24 games (1 start) and averaged 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds. He scored 5 or more points in a game 6 times. He made 33.3 percent of his three-point attempts (11-for-33) and 76.9 percent of his free throw attempts (10-for-13). Agbonkpolo scored a season-best 10 points in his collegiate debut on Nov. 5 vs. Florida A&M...he had a perfect game going 3-for-3 from the field (1-for-1 from 3-point range) and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. He made 3 three-pointers to finish with 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds vs. South Dakota State on Nov. 12. Agbonkpolo made his only start of the season vs. Temple on Nov. 22 and had a rebound and a block in 7 minutes of action. He scored 5 points in 5 minutes off the bench against Long Beach State on Dec. 15. He scored 8 points and had 4 rebounds in 11 minutes vs. FGCU on Dec. 29. He scored 7 points vs. California on Jan. 16, going 2-for-2 from three-point range. He had 6 points and 3 rebounds vs. Washington on Feb. 13.
HIGH SCHOOL: Agbonkpolo graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic in 2019 where he led his team to a 25-11 record and to the CIF Division I quarterfinals. He led Santa Margarita to a 62-61 overtime win over Chino Hills HS to capture the CIF Southern Section Division I title, scoring 23 points, including the game winner with just over a minute left in overtime. He was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division I first team. USA Today named him to the All-California second team. The 2019 recruiting rankings list Agbonkpolo as the No. 5 prospect in the state of California and nationally No. 52 by 247Sports, No. 56 by Rivals.com and No. 64 by ESPN.com.
PERSONAL: Max was born on August 26, 2000 in Laguna Niguel, Calif. His parents are Pia Friederici and Marko Skosic. He is a Communication major at USC.
