THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior Jalyn Jackson is in his third season as a long and triple jumper on the USC track and field team. He transferred to USC from California in the summer of 2019. He ranks seventh on USC's all-time indoor triple jump list.
2021: He set both his long jump and triple jump PRs during the season and earned second-team All-America honors in the triple jump. He took fifth in the LJ with a PR of 25-0.75/7.64m (+1.1) at the Pac-12 Championships. He advanced to the NCAA West Prelims and finished 15th with a best jump of 24-11.25/7.60m (+1.1). He also placed fifth in the TJ at Pac-12s with a jump of 51-0.25/15.55 (+0.0). He posted his legal PR in the TJ of 52-5.50/15.99 (+1.2) 52-9.25/16.08 (+2.4w) and a wind-aided best of to advance seventh out of the West Prelims. He finished 16th at nationals in the TJ with a best jump of 51-7.25/15.73 (-1.5)
2020: Jackson had an indoor PR of 52-4.00 (15.95m) to finish fourth at the Texas Tech Invitational and move into seventh place on USC's all-time indoor list. He posted an indoor long jump PR of 24-8.25 (7.52m) at the MLK Invitational. Finished second in the triple jump at the MPSF Championships with a leap of 50-10.00 (15.49m)...was ninth in the LJ (23-7.25). He did not compete outdoors before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
BEFORE USC: Jackson spent the 2018-19 school year at California, but he was injured during the outdoor season. He did win the triple jump at the Cal Opener with a PR of 50-9.50 (15.48m) which ranked 25th in the West Region. Indoors, he placed third with a indoor best of 50-9.50 (15.48m) at the MPSF Championships...that jump tied him for ninth on Cal's indoor all-time top 10 list in the triple jump.
HIGH SCHOOL: Jackson is a 2018 graduate of Eastlake HS in Chula Vista, Calif. CIF D1 champion in the long jump and triple jump in 2017 and 2018... Two-time state runner-up in the triple jump while also recording a third and a sixth place finish in the long jump... Won league championships in the long jump (2x), triple jump (2x), 110m hurdles and 4x100m relay... Won the Arcadia Invitational triple jump competition... Helped his team to a 2018 Metropolitan League championship.
PERSONAL: Jalyn was born on December 20, 1999 in Tarzana, Calif...His parents are Minelli and Jason Jackson...He has a younger brother, Marcell, and two older sisters, Kristina and Katrina...Likes playing video games, hanging out with friends and going out to dinner in his spare time...His favorite musician is Tyler the Creator...His favorite foods are buffalo wings and any seafood...He would like to become a professional athlete and then work in the sports media industry...Jalyn is a Communication major at USC.
