No. 18 Trojans Seal Best Home Record in Program History with 12-4 Win Over Nevada

The Trojan bats caught fire late in this one as USC moves to 41-12 overall with one road series remaining in the regular season. Nevada falls to 23-24 with the loss. The victory also clinched the ninth sweep of the year for the Trojans, extending what was already a program record. USC's only loss at home this year was on March 24 in a midweek contest against then-No. 16 Oregon State.
What started out as a pitchers' duel was blown wide open in the seventh inning as the Trojans scored eight runs on five homers to take a 12-3 lead. Augie Lopez singled in a run to start the rally and then Jack Basseer and Walter Urbon each hit two-run homers. Adrian Lopez went back-to-back with Urbon, hitting a solo-shot to left and then Kevin Takeuchi capped the rally with another two-run homer on a towering 450-foot shot to left.
Diego Velazquez got the start and gave up just one run in 5.0 strong innings of work. The freshman righty struck out three batters and walked none, scattering five hits as he would take a no-decision.
Nevada scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, but USC came right back with a pair in the bottom half of the inning. Maximo Martinez had a pinch-hit RBI single with one out to tie it, and then Adrian Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Lamb and put USC in front.
After 2.0 innings on the mound from Andrew Johnson, Sax Matson and Adam Troy worked the eighth and ninth respectively to close it out.

COMING UP
USC heads to No. 13 Oregon for its final series of the regular season next week, with the three-game set starting on Thursday. The first two games in Eugene will be broadcast on B1G+ and the finale will be on the Big Ten Network.
