USC Track and Field Prepares for Three Meets Across Southern California

Four Trojans are expected to make their outdoor season debuts
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The USC track and field team will head to three local meets this week, starting with the throwers at the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday. The distance crew will head to the Bryan Clay Invitational, and the sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers will compete at Mt. SAC Relays.
PACIFIC COAST INVITATIONAL
The throws squad will be the first back in action, competing in discus, shot put and hammer at Long Beach State. Racquil Broderick, Ashley Erasmus, Vincent Ugwoke, Reese Garland, Mico Lampinen, Jenna Gallaway, Karyssa Owens and Matteo Mitchell are expected to compete. Additionally, Max Lampinen is expected to make his Trojan debut.
MT. SAC RELAYS
The sprints, jumps, and hurdles squad will head to Walnut, California on Friday and Saturday for the Mt. SAC Relays. Most notably, 200m indoor national champion Garrett Kaalund will make his outdoor season debut in both the 100m and 200m. Edward Nketia will also debut in the 100m for the season. Ethan Exilhomme is expected to debut for the outdoor season in the 110m hurdles. On the women's side, Mia Brahe-Pedersen will compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100 relay. Six Women of Troy are entered into the 200m across the collegiate and elite fields. Indoor 400m national runner-up Madison Whyte is expected to compete in both the 200m and 400m as well.
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
The distance crew will compete across Friday and Saturday in the 800m and 1500m at Azusa Pacific University. Gus Armstrong, Gabriel Castillo, Alfredo Reina Corona and Chase McCallum will compete on the men's side. Additionally, Mateo Allen-Aguirre is expected to make his Trojan debut. On the women's side, Oluwatosin Awoleye, Jacqueline Duarte, Haley Spoden and Paige Unger are expected to compete.
LAST TIME OUT
The USC track and field team found top marks in the NCAA this season at both the LSU Battle on the Bayou and Triton Invitational. Oluwatosin Awoleye had a dominant 800m debut, placing second and setting a new USC freshman record in a time of 2:02.12, breaking Brigita Langerholc's time of 2:04.16 from 1998. In the women's 400m, Madison Whyte placed second to move up to No. 2 on the program all-time list with a personal best of 50.06.
At the Triton Invitational, Ashley Erasmus threw the NCAA-leading mark in shot put. Reese Garland and Mico Lampinen picked up wins and personal-best marks in discus and hammer, respectively.
2026 INDOOR SEASON SUCCESS
At the NCAA Indoor Championships, Garrett Kaalund led USC with a historic 200m title in a record-breaking 19.95, the first sub-20 indoor collegiate time ever and an NCAA and American record.
Madison Whyte added to the Trojans' success with a runner-up finish in the 400m in a personal-best 50.68, while Dajaz DeFrand and Brianna Selby earned First Team All-American honors in the 60m.
2025 OUTDOOR SEASON
Last outdoor season, the Trojans delivered standout performances on both the men's and women's sides. At the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, the women claimed the team title behind a dominant showing from Madison Whyte, who won the 200m and 400m and anchored the meet-clinching 4x400m relay. The men finished fourth, highlighted by individual titles from William Jones in the 400m and Yougendy Mauricette in the 400m hurdles.
At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the women placed second overall, securing national titles in the 100m and the 4x400m relay. The men secured the NCAA team championship with 41 total points, capping off an exceptional season for both programs.
