Erasmus put up her best mark of the day on the last throw to break her previous record of 17.99m

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The USC track and field throws squad kicked off a three-meet weekend starting with the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday. Ashley Erasmus broke her shot put school record, set last year, with a new mark of 18.07m (59-3.5) on her way to a win.

Max Lampinen made his collegiate debut to start the day, taking second place in hammer throw at 68.96m (226-3). Mico Lampinen followed in third with a new best of 68.01m (223-1).

In men's discus, Racquil Broderick and Vincent Ugwoke placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Broderick threw for 61.50m (201-9) and Ugwoke made a mark of 59.90m (196-6).

Reese Garland and Karyssa Owens closed the day strong at women's discus with third and sixth place, respectively. Owens put up a personal best with a mark of 53.74m (176-3) while Garland led all Trojans with a mark of 56.35m (184-10). Additionally, Owens placed sixth in women's hammer throw with another personal best of 62.97m (206-7).
