USC Lacrosse Collects 13-3 Win Over San Diego State

Alex May and Kaylee Fravert recorded hat tricks in a 10-goal Trojan win
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team (5-2) earned a 13-3 midweek win over San Diego State (1-4) at Rawlinson Stadium on Wednesday, March 4.

- So. midfielder Alex May had career highs of four points and three goals to log her first-career hat trick and caused a pair of turnovers. One of her three goals came from free position and was at the buzzer before halftime. May becomes the 39th player in program history to record a hat trick.
- So. attacker Kaylee Fravert produced her seventh-career hat trick game with three goals on four shots.
- Jr. attacker Reese Robinson put up three points (1g, 2a) and caused one turnover.
- So. goalie Ellie Thomas went wire-to-wire between the pipes to pick up five saves and secured her fourth win.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hannah Barron had two points (1g, 1a), picked up four ground balls and two draw controls.
- So. defender Sophie Gangemi had a career-high five ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Jr. midfielder Anna Regan had six draw controls, caused two turnovers, picked up two ground balls, and scored a goal.
- Fr. midfielder Sydney Stewart scored two goals including one from free position and grabbed a ground ball.
- For the Aztecs, Macie Buell, Mia Maechtel, and Keira Doyle-Odenbach each scored a goal. Tate Stokesberry, Molly Jacobson, and Maechtel each had assists. Maya Tillman caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
- USC dominated the center circle with a 13-4 edge in draw controls which allowed the Trojans to out-shoot the Aztecs, 38-14. USC also had more ground balls (22-14).
- Fravert, May, Regan, Stewart, and Robinson all scored goals in the first 10 minutes of the first quarter to help USC build a 5-0 lead. May scored her second goal of the game to put the Trojans on top, 6-0, at the end of the opening frame.
- Buell scored off a dish from Maechtel to break the USC run in the second quarter, but Stewart, Barron, and Fravert each scored to give the Trojans a 9-1 lead. Doyle-Odenbach scored with 21 seconds to play to make it 9-2, but May was fouled in the critical scoring area to set up a free-position attempt with one second left in the first half. Her third goal of the half made it an eight-goal lead for the Women of Troy, 10-2, at halftime.
- Fravert secured her hat trick and Maechtel scored goals in the third quarter to make it 11-3 entering the fourth. Sr. attacker Maggie Ramsay scored her second-career goal on a free-position attempt to put the Trojans on top, 12-3, and redshirt Jr. attacker Lillie Bea Cope took a pass from So. attacker Mia LoPinto to score the Trojans' 13th goal with under five minutes to play. The clock would run out on the Aztecs to cement the 13-3 final.Â
- USC hosts Niagara (1-4) for a Sunday matinee matchup (March 8) at 1 p.m. PT. The Trojans and the Purple Eagles will meet for the first time and be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC moved to 15-1 all-time against San Diego State with a 7-1 mark at home and has won five straight over the Aztecs.
- The Trojans improved to 3-1 at home on Rawlinson Stadium grass.
- USC's 10-goal win was the program's 59th by double-digit goals. It was the first this season and the first since the Trojans beat Oregon, 21-3, on April 19, 2025.
