No. 12 USC Baseball Takes Series with 14-4 Win at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 12 USC baseball team won its seventh straight series with a 14-4 victory in eight innings against Maryland on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans scored 14 runs on 15 hits to move to 26-3 overall on the season and 10-2 in Big Ten play. Maryland falls to 12-15, 2-7.

The Trojans' offense got going early, scoring three in the first and four in the second to take a quick 7-1 lead. USC's three-run first came courtesy of an RBI groundout, sac fly and bases-loaded walk. The four-run second was powered by the long ball as Augie Lopez hit a three-run homer and Adrian Lopez followed him with a solo-shot.

Maryland cut into the deficit with two runs in the third, but the Trojans had a response, getting an RBI single from Kevin Takeuchi and a two-run knock from Maddox Riske to push it to a 10-3 USC advantage.

Augie Lopez hit his second homer of the day as part of a two-run seventh and Maximo Martinez drove in the 14^th run of the game to push it to a 10-run advantage in the eighth inning. Augie drove in a team-high six runs in the game.

Sax Matson finished off the win with 2.0 scoreless innings on the mound, following Gavin Lauridsen, who gave up one run in 3.0 frames. Matson struck out three and did not allow a hit.

COMING UP
The Trojans then return to Southern California for a midweek matchup with UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday at Dedeaux Field, before heading to No. 1 UCLA next weekend. USC's Tuesday matchup against UCSB and the first two games of the UCLA series will be broadcast on B1G+. Sunday's finale between the Trojans and Bruins will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
