No. 4 USC Men's Volleyball Collects 3-0 Win Over Jessup

The Trojans won their fourth straight match behind a 14-kill performance from Christian Connell
LOS ANGELES – The fourth-ranked USC men's volleyball team (12-3, 4-2 MPSF) won its fourth straight match and 12th consecutive set with a second straight-set sweep (27-25, 25-16, 25-16) of Jessup (6-12, 0-6) at Galen Center on Saturday, March 21.

- So. OH Christian Connell led all players with a season-high 14 kills (1e, 24att) to go with .542 hitting. He also matched his career high with eight digs and had a solo block to total 15.0 points.
- So. OH Sterling Foley collected nine kills (1e) on 18 attacks to hit .444 and had five digs and a service ace.
- Fr. OH Cooper Keane recorded nine kills to go with nine digs and had two blocks (one solo) and two service aces.
- Jr. S Caleb Blanchette dished out 33 assists to power the Trojans to a .474 hitting percentage.
- So. LIB Johnny Dykstra had six digs.
- Redshirt So. MB Wesley Smith finished with 9.0 points earned on eight kills (1e, 10att) and .800 hitting with one block.
- Jr. MB Thiago Zamprogno totaled five kills (7att) and hit .714 to go with two blocks.
- For the Warriors, Jan Lopuch led the offense with 11 kills. Jonas Mueller added nine kills and had five digs and two blocks. Jacob Knudsen scored eight kills and hit .286 to go with two digs and two blocks. Colin Marks had 28 assists and six digs.
- The Trojans out-hit the Warriors, .462 to .256, and totaled more kills (45-35), assists (42-32), digs (31-23), and blocks (5.0-4.5) than Jessup. USC also won the service line by a 17-13 margin with a 3-1 edge in service aces.
- It took 15 ties and four lead changes, but the Trojans claimed a 27-25 win in the opening set behind .375 hitting (17k, 5e) on 32 attempts. The Warriors led by as many as two points several times, but USC had set point first at 24-23 on a kill from Smith. Jessup staved off two set points, but back-to-back errors surrendered the Warriors chances. Foley had five of his kills in the first set while Smith and Keane each added four apiece. Keane also had four digs to lead the Trojans.
- USC collected 14 kills (2e) on 24 attacks and hit .500 in a 25-16 set-two win. Connell had six of his kills in the second and did it on just nine swings. Smith added three kills and had the Trojans' only block. USC had nine digs and held the Warriors to .259 hitting with 11 kills (4e) on 27 attacks to move in front, 2-0, in the match.
- Connell added six more kills in the third and powered the Trojans to a .545 hitting percentage in a 25-16 win. Keane added four more kills, and two service aces and Foley had a pair of kills to go with a service ace. The Trojans put up two blocks and held the Warriors to a .308 hitting percentage with 11 kills (3e) on 26 attacks.
- USC hosts Menlo (3-11, 2-3 MPSF) for back-to-back matches next weekend (March 27-28) at Galen Center. The Trojans and the Oaks meet on Friday (March 27) at 7 p.m. PT and then do it again on Saturday (March 28) at 5 p.m. Both matches will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC won the first-time season series with the Warriors and moved to 2-0 against Jessup.
- The Trojans improved to 9-2 at Galen Center this spring.
- USC logged its eighth 4-0 sweep of the season.
- USC's fourth straight win is also its fourth straight sweep to bring the Trojans' run of sets won to a season-best 12 in a row.
