Trojans open weekend road play against Michigan State.
LOS ANGELES — The No. 8 USC women's tennis team returns to action with a pair of Big Ten match ups on deck, traveling to Michigan State and Michigan this weekend. USC enters the week at 11-4 overall following an impressive 4-1 victory over then-No. 2 Ohio State, a result that further solidified the Trojans as one of the top contenders in the conference.
First up, USC faces Michigan State on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT. The Spartans carry an 8-6 record into the match up. MSU is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to Nebraska and feature a ranked doubles pair in No. 57 Matilde Morais and Ellie Blackford. USC has historically had the upper hand in the series, holding a 3-0 all-time advantage. With no ranked singles players in the Spartan lineup, the Trojans will look to capitalize on their depth, led by ranked standouts No. 24 Jana Hossam, No. 50 Emma Charney and No. 114 Eugenia Zozaya.
USC will then turn its attention to a surging Michigan squad that enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak, most recently sweeping Iowa 4-0. The Wolverines, currently ranked No. 28, also face UCLA prior to their meeting with USC. Michigan boasts a strong singles lineup anchored by No. 20 Lily Jones and No. 21 Piper Charney (sister of USC's Emma Charney), along with multiple ranked doubles teams. The Trojans' own doubles depth is highlighted by three nationally ranked pairs including No. 19 Daniela Borruel and Lily Fairclough, could prove pivotal as USC aims to continue its winning ways against high-level conference competition.
