Trojans upset Buckeyes at Marks Stadium.
LOS ANGELES — No. 12 USC delivered one of its biggest wins of the season on Sunday, toppling No. 2 Ohio State 4-1 at Marks Tennis Stadium. The victory marks the Trojans' first win over a No. 2 ranked program since defeating No. 2 Michigan on Feb. 18, 2024, and improves USC to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Trojans set the tone early by claiming the doubles point against the visiting Ohio State Buckeyes. USC struck first on Court 1, where Lily Fairclough and Krisha Mahendran defeated the No. 17-ranked duo of Teah Chavez and Hephizbah Oluwadare 6-2. Immi Haddad and Emma Charney sealed the point shortly after with a 6-4 win on Court 3 over Audrey Spencer and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev, clinching the doubles advantage for the Trojans.
In singles play, USC extended its momentum with a quick result on Court 3. No. 98 Eugenia Zozaya powered past Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev 6-4, 6-2 to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead and turn in her 13th dual match singles win this season (the most on the squad).
Ohio State answered at the top of the lineup, where No. 3 Luciana Perry rallied past USC's Immi Haddad 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Court 2 to cut the Trojan lead to 2-1.
USC quickly regained control behind a marquee performance from No. 38 Jana Hossam. Facing the nation's No. 4 player in Teah Chavez on Court 1, Hossam delivered a composed straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-4, pushing the Trojans within one point of the upset.
The clincher came on court six where Dani Borruel battled through a three-set contest against Alessia Cau. After splitting the first two sets, Borruel dominated the decider 6-1 to seal the 4-1 victory for USC.
Several matches remained unfinished when the clinch occurred, including strong positions for the Trojans on Courts 4 and 5.
With the statement win over the second-ranked Buckeyes, the USC continues a perfect start to conference play while adding a signature result to the 2026 campaign.
