No. 25 USC Men's Tennis Drops 4-1 Decision to No. 26 UCLA

Trojans come up short against the Bruins in Westwood.
LOS ANGELES - No. 25 USC men's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 26 UCLA on Friday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, coming up just shy of a comeback against the Bruins.Â
UCLA secured the early momentum by sweeping the doubles point. The Bruins opened with a 6-3 win on court one as Spencer Johnson and Aadarsh Tripathi defeated Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy. Shortly after, Gianluca Ballotta and Emon van Loben Sels clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Connor Church and Branko Djuric on court two. The match on court three went unfinished with UCLA leading 6-5.
In singles play, UCLA extended its lead when Andy Nguyen defeated Casanova 7-5, 6-3 on court four to make it 2-0.
USC responded on court two, where Nathan Trouve battled back after dropping the opening set to defeat No. 104 Rudy Quan 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and put the Trojans on the board.
The Bruins regained control when Aadarsh Tripathi topped McCarthy 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on court five, pushing UCLA within a point of the match victory.
The clincher came on court one, where No. 57 Spencer Johnson edged Branko Djuric in a tight three-set battle, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), sealing the 4-1 win for UCLA.
Two singles matches remained unfinished at the time of the decision. On court three, No. 35 Emon van Loben Sels led Max Exsted 7-5, 5-7, 5-4, while Cassius Chinlund and Church were locked in a third set on court six with Church leading 5-2 after splitting the opening two sets.
With the result, USC moves to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play.Â
