USC Baseball Opens 2026 Season With 3-1 Win Over Pepperdine
February 13, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – Playing its first game in the new Dedeaux Field, the USC Baseball team picked up a 3-1 win over Pepperdine behind a solid start from Mason Edwards and an early two-run double from Augie Lopez.
After playing the last two seasons in Irvine while construction was ongoing at Dedeaux Field, the Trojans were back on campus for the first time since 2023 and held the Pepperdine Waves in check to open the new facility with a victory.
Edwards tossed 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out a career-high nine batters to earn the victory. Lopez's two-run double came in the first inning as he laced a ball down the right field line to score runners from first and second.
The Trojans would add a third run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Dean Carpentier. Kevin Takeuchi scored on the play after bunting his way on base and then stealing second and advancing on an error.
Pepperdine came up with a run in the eighth on a single into left, but that was it for the Waves. Adam Troy earned the save, tossing the final 2.0 innings. Gavin Lauridsen also threw 2.0 relief innings, giving up just the one run and striking out three batters in his collegiate debut.
